After 85 years, a new bridge crosses the Platte River in Douglas, connecting both sides of town and rejoining the historic Yellowstone Highway (U.S. 20). On Thursday, July 30, completion of the new brige will be celebrated with a ceremonial ribbon cutting.
Join us at noon, Thursday, July 30 at the Holiday Inn Express parking lot, 900 Yellowstone Highway, Douglas. Representatives with the Wyoming Department of Transportation will officially mark completion of the bridge and a short parade will follow. Refreshments will be provided. Details of the event will be updated as they are confirmed.
The completion celebration will commemorate the new five-lane bridge with its unique custom railings featuring silhouettes of Douglas’ iconic Jackalope. The bridge also features two pedestrian walkways, ornamental boulevard-style lighting, benches and parking areas. The bridge replaces a structure dating to the early 1920s that was closed and demolished in 2008.
