Poplar Street work to break for fireworks, fair

Date: 06/29/2012

CASPER - Work on the rehabilitation of Poplar Street south of Interstate 25 in Casper will be suspended from July 4 through July 15. Traffic control measures will be removed during this timeframe and, as was the case during construction, access to all businesses will remain open.

Crews will resume work on July 16, and traffic control measures will be in place at that time.

"We've decided to suspend construction work to allow easier access to the fireworks festival and the Central Wyoming Fair," said Jeff Goetz, public relations specialist for WYDOT.

The project is on schedule and much of the remaining work consists of milling the existing asphalt and laying a new road surface. The 10-day closure of Poplar Street from Bighorn Ave. to First Street will still happen, though a beginning date has not been set.

Once completed, Poplar Street will have a new road surface with sidewalk and curb and gutters from I-25 south to the BNSF bridge. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 31.
