WYDOT warns weight restriction violators

Date: 12/16/2011

Rock Springs, Wyo. The Wyoming Department of Transportation has added two new signs on US 191 to remind truck drivers of the commercial closure for US 191 South between Rock Springs and the Utah State line. Any commercial motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) in excess of 40,000 pounds is prohibited from travel between Nov. 15 through April 1. This applies to all commercial vehicles, despite actual weight at the time of travel.
Any vehicles exceeding the weight restriction on US 191 is in violation of state law and will be subject to fines and/or imprisonment.
Wyoming Statute 24-1-109(a) states “Any person who willfully fails to observe any sign, marker, warning, notice, or direction, is guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction shall be subject to a fine up to seven hundred fifty dollars ($750.00) or to imprisonment for a period not to exceed thirty (30) days, or to both such fine and imprisonment.”
WYDOT and the Wyoming Highway Patrol would like to warn drivers that the statute will be enforced and violators will be prosecuted. Information on the restrictions and for a current listing of all road restrictions across Wyoming, please go to http://www.wyoroad.info and select Width Restrictions.
