Basin-Burlington asphalt overlay project to begin

An asphalt paving and chip sealing project is scheduled to begin in mid-May between Basin and Burlington on WYO 30, according to Dan McAfee, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Worland.

The 13.78-mile project begins at reference marker 111.8 and ends between Basin and Burlington at milepost 125.58, with the exception of the town of Burlington.

“According to the contractor’s schedule, paving should begin in mid-May,” McAfee said. “The chip seal finish is scheduled for the first part of June.”

The prime contractor is Mountain Construction Co., of Lovell. The Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded the bid to Mountain Construction on April 9. The project is being funded through federal transportation stimulus funding.

“During the improvements, drivers should expect short traffic delays and reduced speed limits,” McAfee said. “Please slow down through the work zone, and be safe.”

Expected work on the $1.44 million project includes rotomilling existing pavement, placing pit-run gravel, asphalt paving, chip sealing and other work between Basin and Burlington.

Completion date for the improvements is June 30, 2010.
