Curb and gutter being installed on Cowley project
Storm drain pipe installation is progressing on the Main Street portion of the $6.6 million Cowley Streets Improvement Project, and road work is beginning on the west end of the project.
"Curb and gutter installation is progressing from the Cannery Road heading east. A pipe crew is installing storm sewer trunk line up 4th Street,” said Ben Steed, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Basin. "The contractor is scheduled to continue installing drop inlet boxes and lateral lines on Main Street connecting to the main storm drain trunk line from Division Street heading east. Crushed base will also continue to be placed on the north side of Main street heading east."
"We appreciate residents' patience and cooperation in dealing with access to their residences, businesses and the Post Office," Steed added.
The contractor is also sawing the existing sidewalk, excavating and placing concrete for the building facade footings in front of the town’s main business district.
Two-lane traffic is in place through most of the project’s work zones on US 310, but there may be a few short periods where single-lane traffic is required to accommodate the work operations.
“Please practice safety as you navigate the work zones,” Steed said.
Weekly progress meetings open to the public and media are being held at 10 a.m. every Monday at the project staging area, 155 3rd St. E., in Cowley on Jim Tucker’s property.
Reiman Corporation of Cheyenne is the prime contractor on the Cowley streets project.
The 2009 Cowley Streets Improvement Project includes grading, draining, removal and replacement of surfacing, sidewalk, curb and gutter, guardrail, placing crushed gravel, asphalt paving, concrete pavement, storm sewer, landscaping, electrical systems, fencing, and other work on 1.5 miles of US 310 beginning at reference marker 241.73 in the town of Cowley in Big Horn County.
The project completion date is June 30, 2010.
