Phase 1 of Cowley project nearing completion
Storm sewer installation is complete and most of the crushed gravel has been placed between Lane 8 and Cannery Road on the $6.6 million Cowley Streets Improvement Project.
“Curb and gutter installation is progressing, and sidewalk is beginning to be installed this week,” said Ben Steed, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Basin.
“The project is in good shape to have the traditional Cowley’s Day Parade on July 25,” Steed said. “Most of the curb and gutter should be completed along the parade route, and the surface of the road will be crushed gravel base with a dust control agent applied to it.”
Work on the project will shut down from July 23 to July 26 for Cowley Pioneer Days.
Steed said the prime contractor is completing footings for the building facades in the main business district.
Other ongoing work includes installation of the storm sewer system on 4th Street.
“A 12-inch irrigation line broke when the water was turned on after being off for a time,” Steed said. “This line feeds irrigation water to homes and landowners south of 4th Street. WYDOT and the town of Cowley appreciate and are working with these citizens who have been affected by this.”
The 2009 Cowley Streets Improvement Project includes grading, draining, removal and replacement of surfacing, sidewalk, curb and gutter, guardrail, placing crushed gravel, asphalt paving, concrete pavement, storm sewer, landscaping, electrical systems, fencing, and other work on 1.5 miles of US 310 beginning at reference marker 241.73 in the town of Cowley in Big Horn County.
The project completion date is June 30, 2010.
