South Fork Road asphalt overlay project to begin next week
Shoulder widening is scheduled to begin next week on 6.83 miles of Wyoming 291 (South Fork Road) near Cody, according to Todd Frost, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Cody.
Prime contractor Riverside Contracting of Missoula, Mont., is mobilizing equipment to the $2.95 million asphalt rehabilitation project this week.
“Stripping highway shoulders of vegetation and widening highway shoulders will kick off the project next week,” said Frost. “Paving is tentatively scheduled to start the week of Sept. 7, and all paving should be completed by Oct. 15, weather permitting.”
Motorists should expect delays of up to 20 minutes in length, and traffic will be directed through the work zone by pilot vehicles.
“Please allow extra time in traveling South Fork Road during this important project. We need all drivers to slow down for their safety and the safety of workers,” Frost said.
Paving will consist of a 1-inch asphalt leveling layer, a 2-inch asphalt overlay, and a chip seal between mileposts 2.68 and 9.51 on Wyoming 291.
Frost said the road’s chip seal finish is scheduled for the summer of 2010.
The South Fork Road asphalt rehabilitation project is being funded through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Contract completion date for the project is Sept. 15, 2010.
