Greybull school crossing being removed
The Wyoming Department of Transportation is scheduled to remove a school crossing at the intersection of 4th Street and Greybull Avenue (US 14) next week near the Greybull Post Office.
The intersection was the subject of a WYDOT engineering study. The study confirmed “the crossing is not being used as a school crossing,” said Jeff Mellor, WYDOT district traffic engineer in Basin.
Greybull’s new elementary school is south of Greybull Avenue, and most students either ride buses or receive rides to the new school. “Minimal crossing activities of elementary and middle school children occur at random locations from 6th Street to 2nd Street,” Mellor said.
The Greybull School District and Town of Greybull have approved WYDOT’s recommendation to remove the formal school crossing.
Mellor said the school crossing signs are scheduled for removal next week, but the painted crosswalk will stay until it fades.
