Expect two detours on Cody Northeast project

Motorists should expect two detours as the new highway is being built over the new 96-inch pipes at Iron Creek and Buck Creek on the $10.2 million US 14-A five-lane highway improvement project between Cody and Powell, according to Todd Frost, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Cody.

Iron Creek is at milepost 10.94 on US 14-A, while Buck Creek is at milepost 12.20.

Frost said work is scheduled to start late this week or early next week, weather permitting.

“As soon as this work is completed, traffic will be diverted to the new road grade at these areas so the new pipes can be completed through the existing roadway,” Frost said. “Once these pipes are completed, the existing roadway will be paved and traffic will be returned to the existing roadway for the winter.”

Frost said motorists should expected reduced speeds through the work areas at these pipe locations.

Frost said the contractor’s work hours continue to be 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. five days a week.

“Motorists can continue to expect reduced speeds and possible delays throughout the project, and delays will not exceed 10 minutes,” Frost said. “By contract, traffic will not be stopped between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., and between 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.”

High Country Construction Inc., of Lander, is the prime contractor on the Cody Northeast Phase 1 project. The prime contractor is responsible for grading, draining, placing crushed gravel, asphalt paving, removal and replacement of bridges and guardrail, fencing and other work on 3.85 miles of US 14-A beginning at milepost 10.05.

The Cody Northeast Phase 1 project is being funded through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

Contract completion date is Oct. 15, 2010.

WYDOT contact for this project is Resident Engineer Todd Frost, 587-2220.
