18 bridges are focus of northwest Wyoming rehabilitation project
A $1.88 million bridge rehabilitation project is scheduled to begin May 10 near Cody and Thermopolis, according to Todd Frost, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Cody.
Prime contractor S&S Builders, LLC, of Gillette is scheduled to begin work May 10 on a pair of bridges on U.S. 14/16/20, west of Cody. “The first structures will be the North Fork of the Shoshone River bridge at milepost 2.26 and Gunbarrel Creek at milepost 12.30,” said Frost. “Work will consist of expansion joint repair, and work on these structures will take approximately three weeks per bridge.”
Frost said one-way traffic will be in place at both bridges with temporary concrete barrier placed on the bridges to separate work efforts and traffic. Temporary traffic signals will be used to move traffic across the bridges.
“Drivers should expect up to two minutes delay, and during improvements, there will be a 14-foot width restriction in effect,” he said.
The contractor is also scheduled to begin work during the week of May 10 on the bridge over the Big Horn River at milepost 1.50 on Wyoming 173, south of Thermopolis.
“The Thermopolis-area bridge work consists of expansion joint repair and replacement of approach slabs,” Frost said.

S&S Builders, LLC, of Gillette was awarded the bid to improve the 18 bridges on April 15 by the Wyoming Transportation Commission. Work will consist of bridge rehabilitation, grading, draining, placing crushed gravel base and asphalt pavement surfacing, structure and bridge deck repair, and other work at various locations in Big Horn, Fremont, Hot Springs and Park counties.
Contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2010.
