Sheridan Avenue project to begin in Cody; public meeting May 24
A $2.05 million project to reconstruct Sheridan Avenue from 29th Street to 33rd Street in Cody is scheduled to begin next week, according to Todd Frost, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Cody.
Next week’s scheduled work includes installation of storm sewer across the campus of the new Sunset School. “Impacts and delays for this work will be minor,” Frost said.
The contractor is required to hold a public meeting before starting any work on Sheridan Avenue, and this meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, May 24, in the City of Cody Council Chambers.
“The purpose of this public meeting is to discuss the anticipated construction schedule, traffic delays and to answer questions,” Frost said. “The project involves reconstruction. When completed, there will be new curb and gutter and sidewalk installed on both sides of the street. Storm sewer will be installed. The new street will be two lanes with a travel lane in each direction. Each side of the street will have a parking lane, except in front of Sunset School. In front of the school, the roadway will be three lanes with one travel lane in each direction and a center turn lane. No parking will be allowed in front of the new school.”
The Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded the bid to prime contractor J Wright Companies, Inc., of Evanston on April 29.
Work includes grading; draining; placing crushed gravel base, asphalt pavement surfacing and asphalt wearing course; placing concrete pavement; removal and replacement of sidewalk, curb and gutter; and fencing and other work on .49 miles of Sheridan Avenue in Cody.
Contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2010.
WYDOT contact for this project is Resident Engineer Todd Frost, 587-2220.
