Manderson-area pavement overlay projects begin in May

A pair of asphalt overlay projects are scheduled to begin in May north of Worland, according to Dan McAfee, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Worland.

“Drivers should expect traffic delays of up to 20 minutes during these highway improvement projects,” McAfee said. “Please pay attention to workers through this project, or be prepared to pay the price.”

The first project – 5.6 miles of U.S.16-20/Wyoming 789 near Manderson – was awarded to Western Wyoming Construction Co., of Lander last July. The $1.294 million project has a completion date of Sept. 30, 2010.

The U.S. 16-20/Wyoming 789 project is being funded through the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

A second asphalt overlay project on 1.01 miles of Wyoming 31 begins at the state highway’s intersection with U.S. 16-20/Wyoming 789.

The $445,000 contract was awarded to Western Wyoming Construction Co., in April. Contract completion date for this project is Sept. 30, 2010.

“The contractor plans to complete both paving projects between mid-May and the end of June,” McAfee said.

The contractor’s work on both projects includes milling, grading, asphalt pavement leveling and surfacing, chip sealing and other work.

WYDOT contact for this project is Resident Engineer Dan McAfee, 347-2822.
