Temporary bridge construction to begin on 17-Mile Road

Construction and installation of a temporary bridge over the Little Wind River on 17-Mile Road is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 29, according to Robert Scheidemantel, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Riverton.

Reiman Corp., of Cheyenne was awarded a $777,501 emergency construction contract by the Wyoming Transportation Commission on July 15 to install a temporary bridge over the Little Wind River at milepost 9.14 on 17-Mile Road, which is also known as Fremont County Road 334.

The permanent bridge was damaged beyond repair due to June flooding in Fremont County. 17-Mile Road remains closed to through  traffic on both sides of the Little Wind River bridge.

“This emergency contract was developed and awarded as quickly as possible because of high volumes of traffic that 17-Mile Road carries, health and human safety issues, and the need to get a detour bridge in place to alleviate the miles required to drive around this unusable bridge,” Scheidemantel said.

By contract, Reiman Corp., is required to begin work on the temporary bridge. “By contract, the contractor has 28 working days to complete work on the detour bridge and open the detour bridge to two-way traffic (by Sept. 8). This 28-day construction requirement does not include adverse weather days, so the 28-day window is dependent on favorable weather,” Scheidemantel said.

Reiman Corp., is responsible for removal of the existing Little Wind River bridge, construction of the detour, construction and placement of the temporary bridge, and other work at milepost 9.14 on Fremont County Road 334.

WYDOT contact for the project is Resident Engineer Robert Scheidemantel,  856-1341.
