U.S. 14-A project re-starts between Cody and Powell

Reconstruction of 2.8 miles of U.S. 14-A between Powell and Cody has resumed, according to Todd Frost, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Cody.

Mountain Construction Co., of Lovell, is the prime contractor on the $5.9 million Cody Northeast Phase 2 project to widen the existing highway to five lanes. The project is between mileposts 7.48 and 10.28 on U.S. 14-A.

“Traffic will be carried through the project without delay from 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., except for one flagger station on the project. The flagger at this station will stop traffic just long enough to allow equipment to enter or exit the construction area,” Frost said.

Frost said “10-minute traffic delays should be expected at all other times.” Frost said a 12-foot width restriction will go into effect on the project beginning Thursday, March 17.

“The contractor will begin detouring traffic at milepost 9.75 on a gravel surface. This is where a pipe will be installed,” Frost said. “Speeds will be reduced to 20 mph through the detour as the new pipe is being installed.”

Frost said the contractor will soon begin excavation work on the project.

“When this occurs, the current asphalt driving surface will start turning to a gravel surface, and speed limits will be reduced to 45 mph,” Frost said.

Frost said the contractor’s work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., up to six days a week. Mountain Construction Co., of Lovell, is the prime contractor on the Cody Northeast Phase 2 project. The prime contractor is responsible for grading, draining, placing crushed gravel, asphalt paving, chip sealing, fencing and other work on 2.8 miles of U.S. 14-A between mileposts 7.48 and 10.28.

Contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2011.

WYDOT contact for this project is Resident Engineer Todd Frost, 587-2220.
