Vehicle Importation Requirements

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)

 Requirements for vehicles imported from Canada (for vehicles with less than 25 years of service).

Imported Through a Registered Importer:

  1. Registered Importer's Certification Label affixed in the driver side door area
  2. A copy of the Bond Release Letter signed by the director of the Office of Vehicle Safety Compliance
  3. A copy of the Recall Service Policy for the vehicle

Imported by an Individual:

  1. A copy of the Manufacturer's Letter which identifies the vehicle by the vehicle identification number (VIN) and indicates the vehicle meets U.S. safety standards
  2. A copy of the Declaration form signed-off by the U.S. Customs Service (form DOT HS-7 or CF7501)
  3. A copy of the EPA form signed-off by the U.S. Customs Service (form 3520-1)
