Update on Accident on Hwy 59 South of Gillette – 11:05 AM

This morning at approximately 7:30 AM a Wyoming Department of Transportation contractor was working on a Crack Seal project on Highway 59 South of Gillette.  Traffic Control was set up at both ends of the project.  North bound traffic was stopped at the entrance of the construction project waiting at the flagging operation for a Pilot Car.   A Powder River Transport bus traveling North Bound for reasons unknown at this time failed to slow and hit the line of traffic that was waiting for the pilot car. 

Ultimately there were eight vehicles involved including the transport bus.  There were three fatalities from two separate vehicles involved in the crash.  Occupants of at least two other vehicles were transported via ambulance with unknown injuries.  

Highway 59 remains closed at this time as emergency personnel continue to clear the accident site. 



Accident on Hwy 59 South of Gillette – 8:30 AM

A crash involving 9 vehicles on Highway 59 South of Gillette at Mile Post 99 occurred around 7:30 AM this morning.  The Wyoming Highway Patrol, Campbell County Sheriff’s Office as well as numerous other Emergency Vehicles are on scene.  There are numerous injuries and multiple fatalities. 

The roadway is completely blocked at this time and emergency crews are anticipating it to take several hours before they are able to get traffic moving again on Highway 59.  Motorists in the area are asked to be patient and all other motorists that need to go in this direction are asked to find alternative routes at this time.
