All four alpine highway sections in Wyoming now open for summer season

May 27, 2015

WYO 70 over Battle Pass is now open for the season. It is the last of the four Wyoming alpine passes that close for the winter to reopen this spring.

Travelers are advised that current high country conditions are wet with cold nights. Motorcyclists and bikers should watch for patches of frozen run-off before the morning sun warms the road surface.

Short-term closures due to winter weather are still possible on all of the alpine passes. For current conditions on the roads, please phone 511 or visit the 511 Travel Information Service.

Battle Pass, along with WYO 130 over the Snowy Range, US 14A in the Big Horn Mountains and US 212 over Beartooth Pass near the Wyoming-Montana border in northwest Wyoming, are closed for the winter following hunting season, when heavy snow and low traffic volumes make it impractical to keep them open.
