Crews to start I-25 southbound bridge repairs on June 21

June 17, 2016

A bridge rehabilitation project near Cheyenne that starts next week will cause minor delays and lane closures.

Motorists will see travel impacts along the I-25 southbound bridge, which crosses over I-80, when crews from S & S Builders of Cheyenne start work on Tuesday, June 21.

The work on the I-25 southbound bridge will entail concrete replacement in various areas of the structure, a new concrete deck overlay, bridge railing and guardrail upgrades, and new expansion joints.

With the work in close proximity to several of the cloverleaf ramps, three of the four ramps will be closed. Those closures include the I-25 northbound to I-80 westbound, I-80 westbound to I-25 southbound and I-25 southbound to I-80 eastbound ramps. Traffic will be detoured around that area, and motorists should be on the lookout for detour signs.

“We ask that motorists needing to use any of these ramps plan accordingly and allow for additional travel time for their commute,” said Wayne Shenefelt, resident engineer in Cheyenne for the Wyoming Department of Transportation.

Motorists are also asked to slow down and pay attention when traveling through the construction zone.

“WYDOT and S & S Builders will have people out on the road performing the work,” Shenefelt said. “We ask motorists to follow posted speed limit signs, watch for workers and watch for vehicles and equipment in the construction zone.”

The work on the bridge is part of a $1.4 million federal project to improve three structures in various locations in southeast Wyoming.
