Crews to start resurfacing work on June 21

Motorists will see minor traffic delays along a section of US 30 (East Lincolnway) in Cheyenne starting next week as crews perform pavement resurfacing work.

Simon Contractors is expected to start work on the project on Tuesday, June 21. However, the start date may change due to weather and other factors.

Workers will be repairing the road surface beginning at the College Drive intersection and heading east through the intersection of Pershing Boulevard, stopping where the divided highway begins. They will do milling work first, followed by adding a new asphalt overlay to restore the condition and ride of the road.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is advising motorists that there will be minor delays, lane closures and reduced speeds during construction. Motorists also may experience rough driving surfaces.

“Please keep in mind that Simon Contractors and WYDOT will have people out on the road performing the work,” said Wayne Shenefelt, resident engineer in Cheyenne. “We ask that motorists be aware of the workers, slow down and watch out for vehicles and equipment in the construction zone.”

The resurfacing portion is the next phase of work along that section of road. Simon Contractors recently completed upgrades to the concrete sidewalk and curbs and gutters to make it compliant with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act. That work took a couple of weeks to complete.

The work on that section of road is part of a $1.14 million contract to improve 4.5 miles of state highways in various locations in southeast Wyoming.
