Meeting to discuss bike, pedestrian safety on Lander's Main Street

April 5, 2017

Minimizing future conflicts between vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians on Lander’s Main Street will be discussed during an April 13, 2017 public meeting.  The meeting begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at the Lander Community Center, 940 Buena Vista.

A construction alternative to test new traffic patterns on Main Street will be shared at the meeting.  The test section will be between 1st and 5th streets and be in effect from Memorial Day to the end of September.

The preferred alternative will add dedicated bike lanes on Main Street between 1st and 5th streets.  The new bike lanes necessitate removing the turning lane from the center of all the blocks. While turning lanes will remain at the intersections, this alternative will result in a loss of some parking spaces near the intersections.
Lincoln and Garfield Streets will see “sharrows” painted in both traffic lanes to encourage equal sharing of the lanes with both automobiles and bikes.  See the attached sk23etch of the preferred alternative.

The Lander Main Street study will use $25,000 to implement temporary structural and non-structural solutions to improve safety and accessibility for all modes of transportation.

The April public meeting is part of the City of Lander’s work to improve bike and pedestrian safety on Main Street under a Wyoming Department of Transportation Alternatives Program grant.

Comments on this summer’s traffic impacts may be given to RaJean Strube Fossen by calling the City of Lander at 307-332-2870, extension 2, or by sending an email to info@landerwyoming.org. Public comments will be taken up through 5 p.m. April 19.
