Section of West Allison Road in Laramie County to close May 9

May 4, 2016

A section of West Allison Road will be closed to through traffic starting on May 9 while crews do utility and reconstruction work this summer.

Simon Contractors of Cheyenne, the contractor for the project, will close a 0.45-mile section of West Allison Road between South Greeley Highway (US 85) and Walterscheid Boulevard while the work is taking place.

Earlier this year, the Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded the $2 million contract to Simon Contractors. The work is expected to be completed by Oct. 31. The Wyoming Department of Transportation is partnering with Laramie County on the project. The county is paying for the project with federal and county funds and WYDOT is overseeing it.

Crews will first do waterline rehabilitation on West Allison Road throughout May. Then at the end of May, crews will start surface removal work in preparation for road reconstruction, which will include paving and sanitary and storm sewer installation. Crews will also add curbs, gutters, sidewalks and shoulders, which currently aren’t in place.

WYDOT will have signs in place, detouring through traffic from that section of West Allison Road. However, those living in that area will still be able to access their homes.

The detour will use West Jefferson Road, to the north of West Allison Road, and College Drive, to the south. If a motorist is traveling west on West Allison Road, they will be detoured onto West Jefferson Road. If they’re heading east on West Allison Road, they will be detoured onto College Drive.
