Section of West Allison Road set to reopen soon

August 19, 2016

Motorists will soon be able to use a section of West Allison Road in Cheyenne that closed for construction in early May.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is anticipating reopening the intersection of Walterscheid Boulevard at West Allison Road early next week, and the 0.45 mile section of West Allison Road in early September.

WYDOT closed the section of West Allison Road between Walterscheid Boulevard and South Greeley Highway (US 85) to through traffic on May 9 so crews could reconstruct the road. WYDOT then needed to close the intersection of Walterscheid Boulevard at West Allison Road in July to do storm sewer work.

Earlier this year, the Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded the $2 million contract for the work to Simon Contractors.

At the Walterscheid Boulevard intersection, crews are finishing up concrete work and will then do paving work, said Tim Morton, Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer in Cheyenne. WYDOT anticipates opening the intersection on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

The section of West Allison Road will remain closed while crews complete concrete work for the driveways, curbs, gutters and sidewalks, and pave the road, Morton said. West Allison Road is expected to be open to traffic starting the first full week of September.

During the closure, WYDOT has detour signs in place directing traffic.
