Snake River Canyon, Hoback Canyon to reopen Friday, Feb. 10

February 10, 2017

The Wyoming Department of Transportation will reopen the Snake River Canyon and Hoback Canyon on Friday, Feb. 10.

The threat of avalanches remains likely and maintenance crews are in those areas working to clear and ensure the roads are safe for the traveling public.

Snake River Canyon (US 26-89), west of Hoback Junction, is expected to reopen after 10 a.m. Hoback Canyon (US 189-191), south of Jackson and southeast of Hoback Junction, is expected to reopen after noon.

Teton Pass (WYO 22), between the Idaho state line and Jackson, remains closed. Crews will evaluate the area and focus efforts on this road. WYDOT officials expect Teton Pass will reopen Saturday, Feb. 11.

The three roads closed earlier this week because of multiple avalanches. The avalanches that occurred are the result of unprecedented levels of snow accumulation and drastic temperature swings.

Motorists can check the latest road conditions by visiting WYDOT’s 511 Travel Information Map.
