Snow causes road closures in northeast Wyoming

April 25, 2017

The Wyoming Department of Transportation has closed several roads in northeast Wyoming on Tuesday, April 25 because of a snowstorm that’s impacting the area.

The storm started Monday evening on April 24 and continued into Tuesday. DayWeather meteorologists anticipate the storm will continue to impact the area throughout Tuesday.

Interstate routes that are closed include I-90 from Sheridan to Buffalo, I-90 from Buffalo to Gillette and I-25 from Buffalo to Kaycee. WYDOT anticipates the interstate routes will remain closed throughout the day and could possibly be closed until the morning of Wednesday, April 26.

WYDOT’s road closure gates are in use, but the flashing lights are not operational because of numerous power outages in Johnson and Sheridan counties. WYDOT wants to remind motorists that if the gates are down, the road is closed.

Other road closures in the northeast corner of Wyoming include all roads in Johnson County including US 16 from Buffalo to Ten Sleep over the mountain.

Roads with no unnecessary travel advisories include:

  • US 14 from Dayton to the Antelope Butte Ski Area - conditions include slick, drifted snow with snowfall, blowing snow and limited visibility;
  • WYO 59 north of Gillette to the Montana state line - conditions are slick with snowfall and limited visibility; and
  • WYO 116 from Upton to WYO 450 - conditions are slick, drifted snow with snowfall, blowing snow and limited visibility.
