State roads will be open to standard commercial traffic during eclipse

August 18, 2017

State interstates and secondary roads will be open to standard commercial traffic during the Aug. 21 solar eclipse, but the Wyoming Highway Patrol will not issue any permits to oversize and overweight vehicles.

Despite rumors to the contrary, no travel restrictions are in place for commercial vehicles within acceptable sizes and weights. Patrol has learned there is incorrect information on social media about commercial vehicle travel and officials wanted to clarify what will occur.

Although no travel restrictions are in place for standard commercial vehicles, Patrol will not issue any permits for oversize and overweight commercial vehicles to help with traffic flow from Aug. 20 to 22.

WHP has a list of legal size limits on its website that commercial vehicle drivers can view to see if they are within acceptable ranges.
