Traffic reduced to one lane on portion of Poplar Street in Casper

March 5, 2018

Beginning Tuesday, March 6, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on a portion of Poplar Street (WYO 220) in Casper.

As part of a bridge reconstruction project lasting through this summer, traffic will be reduced to the two outer lanes across the bridge over the BNSF railroad tracks. This is just north of 1st Street, west of downtown Casper.

The lane reduction is necessary to allow crews to install concrete barriers down the center of the bridge. Once completed, likely by Friday, crews will move traffic to the southbound lanes (again one lane, either direction) to resurface the northbound lanes. It’s expected the resurfacing should take one day. Traffic will then be moved to the northbound lanes to allow for bridge deck reconstruction on the west side of the bridge.

The lane reductions will begin just north of the 1st Street intersection south of the bridge and on the north side just south of River Cross Road.

Throughout this project, traffic from 1st Street north will remain reduced to one lane, either direction. This is likely to cause severe congestion. Alternate routes are suggested such as Salt Creek Highway.

Bridge work includes widening the structure to allow for the sidewalks as well as rehabilitating the structure itself.  Once work is completed on the west side of the bridge, traffic will be moved to that side to allow work on the east side of the bridge. The project is expected to be completed by Oct. 31.
