Transportation Commission awards $12.4 million in contracts

The Wyoming Transportation Commission awarded contracts totaling $12.4 million for seven projects, including three that will be funded through increased fuel tax revenue, during its March meeting.

The work the Wyoming Department of Transportation will complete in various parts of the state includes minor bridge rehabilitation, road grading and overlay and slide stabilization.

S & S Builders of Gillette won the largest of the contracts with the low bid of $3.9 million to complete minor repairs to 22 bridges in Campbell, Crook, Johnson, Sheridan and Weston counties. The work will consist of rehabilitating the bridges and completing minor grading and milling at the bridge ends. The completion date is Oct. 31, 2017.

Lewis & Lewis Inc. of Rock Springs won a $2.7 million contract for improvements to three streets in Green River. The work will include full-depth reclamation in which deteriorating pavement is ground up and used as a base for a new layer of pavement, along with upgrades to sidewalks to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The work will be done on Hitching Post Drive between Upland Way and Iowa Avenue, on West Teton Boulevard between Upland and Bridger Drive, and on East Teton between Colorado Drive and California Drive. The contract completion date is June 30, 2017.

Bituminous Paving Inc. of Ortonville, Minn. submitted the low bid of $1.9 million for chip sealing work on a total of about 75 miles of road in Campbell, Crook, Johnson, Sheridan and Weston counties. Motorists may see some delays due to the construction, which will be completed by Sept. 15, 2016. The following is a breakdown of the work.

• In Campbell County, the work will include about 18.4 miles on WYO 51 from Gillette to the east side of the Campbell County line. WYDOT will also work on 6.6 miles of WYO 59 north of Gillette in the vicinity of Weston.
• Work in Crook County will be on 8.74 miles of WYO 111 from I-90 to Aladdin, and on 7.6 miles on WYO 112 north of Hulett.
• In Johnson County, about 10 miles of work will be completed on several roads including French Creek Road, northwest of Buffalo, and Klondike Road, south of Buffalo.
• Over in Sheridan County, WYDOT will complete the work on 9.2 miles on WYO 331, starting in Sheridan and heading west.
• In Weston County, the work will be completed on 8.3 miles on US 16 from the east side of Newcastle to the South Dakota state line, and on WYO 116 south of Upton for 6.5 miles.

Mountain Construction Co. of Lovell was the lowest bidder at $1.6 million for chip sealing work, and guardrail and cattle guard replacement on 5.67 miles on WYO 170, Hamilton Dome Road, west of Thermopolis in Hot Springs County. The work will be paid for with revenue from the 10-cent fuel tax increase and is scheduled to be finished on Oct. 31, 2016.

Simon Contractors of Cheyenne won an $862,000 contract for chip sealing work on US 85. WYDOT will complete 10 miles of work in various locations on US 85 from the Laramie/Goshen County line to the railroad tracks in Torrington. The agency will also complete the work in various locations in the town of LaGrange. The work will be paid for with revenue from the 10-cent fuel tax increase and is scheduled to be completed by Aug. 31, 2016.

Work on a landslide stabilization project on WYO 24 between Hulett and Alva in Crook County went to Earth Work Solutions of Gillette, which was the lowest bidder at $854,400. WYDOT will build a berm to stabilize the sliding road embankment, realign and re-establish the creek channel and will do grading and drainage work. The completion date is Oct. 31, 2016.

Intermountain Slurry Seal of Watsonville, Calif. was the low bidder at $585,000 for microsurfacing work on 6.92 miles on US 16 starting at Osage and heading west toward Upton. WYDOT uses microsurfacing, which is typically a mix of oil and sand, to seal cracks and provide friction to a road. Motorists should expect some delays. The work will be paid for with revenue from the 10-cent fuel tax increase and is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 30, 2016.
