Transportation commission awards $22 million in highway contracts

 

 

Contracts totaling nearly $22.4 million for 12 highway projects around the state were awarded by the Wyoming Transportation Commission during its January meeting in Cheyenne.

 

Donald B. Murphy Contractors of Federal Way, Wash., submitted the low bid of $5.8 million for reconstruction of a section of WYO 28 about 19 miles south of Lander damaged by a landslide. The work is expected to begin in June and the contract completion date is Sept. 20.

 

High County Construction of Lander won a $5.4 million contract for reconstruction of eight miles of Johnson County Road 13 (Trabing Road) southeast of the Trabing Road Interchange on Interstate 25 under WYDOT’s Industrial Road Program. The road provides access to uranium mines southeast of Buffalo, and is narrow and deteriorating. The rebuilt road will include 11-foot travel lanes and four-foot safety shoulders. The work is expected to begin in April and be completed by Oct. 31.

 

Four miles of WYO 414 between Urie and Mountain View will be resurfaced, a turn lane added and a bike path built along two miles of the highway under a $2.9 million contract awarded to LeGrand Johnson Construction of Logan, Utah. The contract completion date is Sept. 30.

 

Worland’s McGarvin-Moberly Construction won a $1.5 million contract for a pavement overlay on five miles of WYO 70 just east of Baggs. The project is scheduled to be done by Sept. 30.

 

Western Wyoming Construction of Lander was awarded a $1.2 million contract for widening and drainage improvements on a half-mile section of WYO 28 in the Red Canyon area about 15 miles south of Lander. The work also will include installation of cable safety barrier and a pavement overlay. Once the work begins, the contractor has 35 days to complete it, and the road must be restored to two-way traffic at the end of each construction day. The contract completion date is Sept. 30.

 

Western also submitted the low bid of $1 million for construction of a wildlife crossing underpass and deer fencing on WYO 789 about three miles north of Baggs. The underpass will be at a site recommended by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department as a major mule deer crossing. It is about two miles south of a wildlife crossing underpass completed with federal economic stimulus funding two years ago. The work is expected to begin May 1 and be done by Aug. 31.

 

Concrete Foundations of Douglas was awarded a $1.1 million contract for milling off deteriorating pavement on WYO 59 (Fourth Street) in Douglas between US 26 (Center Street) and Richards Street and replacing it with a new layer of pavement. The contract completion date is Aug. 15.

 

A total of nearly three miles of new snow fence will be built along I-25 between Cheyenne and Wheatland and along other highways in Converse, Laramie and Platte counties under a $1.1 million contract won by Oftedal Construction of Miles City, Mont. The work is scheduled to be done by Oct. 31.

 

Gillette’s S&S Builders submitted the low bid of $829,000 to install a new larger drainage culvert on WYO 130 at Brush Creek, where the highway was washed out by flash flooding on July 19. The washout currently is spanned by a temporary bridge, which will remain in place until a detour is completed. The contract calls for the culvert to be in place by April 15 to handle the spring runoff, and the contract completion date is Aug. 31.

 

K’s Construction of Otto submitted the low bid of $697,000 for safety upgrades to bridge railings at three locations on WYO 32 southwest Lovell, and three locations on US 287, one near Fort Washakie, one south of Lander and one west of Sweetwater Station. The contract completion date is Sept. 30.

 

American Construction of Cheyenne won a $601,000 contract for concrete repairs to sections of I-80 in Rock Springs, Green River and other highways in southwest Wyoming, along with the ports of entry at Evanston and Kemmerer. The work is expected to be done by Sept. 30.

Wishbone Fencing of Aladdin was awarded a $220,000 contract for installing right-of-way fencing along WYO 335 and WYO 342 south of Sheridan by Aug. 31.
