Transportation commission awards $36 million in highway contracts

Contracts totaling more than $36 million for 11 highway projects around the state were awarded by the Wyoming Transportation Commission during its October meeting in Cheyenne.

Ralph L. Wadsworth Construction of Draper, Utah, submitted the low bid of $14.5 million for improvements to three miles of US 191 southwest of Rock Springs. The first mile of the highway south of Interstate 80 will be rebuilt and widened from the current two lanes to five lanes, including a center turn lane. The next two miles of the highway to the south will remain two lanes, but will get a new layer of asphalt pavement and be widened to include turn lanes. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2014.

Oftedal Construction of Miles City, Mont., won a $7.3 million contract to widen a six-mile section of WYO 210 (Happy Jack Road) crossing the Laramie-Albany County line. Shoulders will be widened to six feet and the highway will get a new layer of pavement. The work is scheduled to be done by Oct. 31, 2013.

Hedquist Construction of Mills was awarded a $4.1 contract to rebuild one-half mile of Poison Spider Road between US 20-26 and Robertson Road in Mills. The work will include new sidewalk, curb and gutter. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2013.  

Cheyenne’s Knife River submitted the low bid of $4 million for a pavement overlay and bridge deck repair on six miles of I-80 in the Dana Ridge area about 24 miles east of Rawlins. The contract completion date is Oct. 31, 2013.

Simon Contractors of Cheyenne won a $2 million contract to mill off deteriorating pavement on five miles of I-90 about 28 miles west of Gillette and replace it will a new layer of pavement by Sept. 30.

Lovell’s Mountain Construction was the low bidder at $1.8 million for a pavement overlay and chip seal on six miles of WYO 436 (Girl Scout Road) about four miles east of Ten Sleep. The work is scheduled to be done by Aug. 31.

Highway Improvement of Harrisburg, S.D., won three contracts totaling $1.6 million for crack sealing to extend the life of the pavement on highways around the state. The contract amounts are: $901,000 for work on highway sections in northwest and central Wyoming by June 15; $614,000 for work on highway sections in northeast Wyoming by May 15; and $121,000 for work on highway sections in southwest Wyoming by April 30.

Hardrives Construction of Billings, Mont., submitted the low bid of $533,000 for crack sealing on highway sections in southeast Wyoming by April 30.

S&S Builders of Gillette won a $196,000 contract to bring sidewalks along one-half-mile of US 85 (South Greeley Highway) in Cheyenne into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The work will be done between Fox Farm Road and Deming Drive, and also include installing pedestrian signals for crossing the ramps to and from I-80. The contract completion date is June 30.
