US 14 Dayton to Greybull will be closed overnight

The Wyoming Department of Transportation has closed US 14 over the mountain from Dayton to Greybull for the evening.  This stretch of roadway was originally closed due to inclement weather at 5:45 am this morning, Tuesday April 29th.  The road was re-opened from Dayton to Elk View today around noon.  WYDOT Burgess Junction and Sheridan Area crews were able to keep the stretch from Dayton to Elk View open for several hours this afternoon.  This stretch even when open was kept under a No Unnecessary Travel advisory. Conditions in the area have continued to deteriorate this afternoon and WYDOT Maintenance personnel has decided for the safety of the traveling public to close this stretch of mountainous road overnight.   WYDOT crews have reported about a foot of new snow and 30 to 40 mph winds with gusts much higher.  There has been numerous vehicles drive off the road as a result of poor visibility.  “It is just a dangerous road at this time” said Ronda Holwell, WYDOT Public Involvement Specialist.   WYDOT plans to patrol the road for any stranded motorists and then they will begin the process of re-opening this stretch of roadway in the morning.
