WYDOT temporarily closes Fort Steele rest area on I-80

April 21, 2016

The Wyoming Department of Transportation closed the Fort Steele rest area earlier this week due to a main water pump failure.

The rest area is 13 miles east of Rawlins on I-80, and is expected to reopen next week. WYDOT is working quickly to get the issue fixed, and apologizes for any inconveniences this may cause to the traveling public.

While the Fort Steele rest area is closed, travelers can access the Wagonhound rest area, which is 50 miles west of Laramie, before the Fort Steele rest area. They can also access the Bitter Creek rest area, which is 41 miles east of Rock Springs, which is after the Fort Steele rest area.
