Wyoming Fuel Tax Administration

 

Fuel Tax Administration (FTA) is charged with administering Wyoming's motor fuel tax laws. The program is dedicated to providing assurance that the state receives all fuel tax revenue to which it is legally entitled for the preservation of and enhancements to the transportation system.

State laws governing fuel taxes are contained in Title 39, Chapter 17, Articles 1 & 2 and are administered in Chapter 5 of WYDOT's Rules and Regulations. The statutory definition of fuel includes all types of combustible gases and liquids used to operate motor vehicles on public roadways and highways. The tax imposed on fuel is conclusively presumed to be a direct tax on the ultimate or retail consumer.
