Testing for a CDLCommercial Driver License (CDL) testing is mandated by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and is regulated by that agency. Wyoming's Q-test automated testing system provides the opportunity for you to take the written test on a touch-sensitive computer. This system allows for individuals with reading difficulties to hear each question orally, as well. If you need to listen to the questions when you are testing, you must advise the examiner prior to taking the test. Testing is available in English only. Required written tests:
Endorsements: You must take a written test for each endorsement you need to operate your commercial vehicle. Endorsements also requiring a driving skills test are denoted with an * below: "H" - Hazmat Authorizes a driver, 18 years of age or older, to operate a vehicle transporting hazardous materials. It can be added to Class "A", "B" and "C" commercial license only. If you are between the ages of 18 to 20 years you will be restricted to "Intrastate Driving Only." You must also complete and pass the Federal Hazardous Materials Security Threat Assessment and be fingerprinted. This endorsement cannot be added to a non-commercial driver's license. Please go to the TSA Web site for locations and information concerning the assessment and fingerprinting. If you are transferring a CDL with a hazmat endorsement issued in another state, you are required to complete the Federal Hazardous Materials Security Threat Assessment and be re-fingerprinted. You are also required to retake the written test for Hazardous Materials. "N" - Tanker Authorizes a driver to operate a vehicle which is designed to transport as its primary cargo any bulk liquid or gaseous material within a tank having a designed capacity of 1,000 gallons or more and is attached to the vehicle. It can be added to a commercial or non-commercial Class "A," "B" or "C" license; however, a commercial Class "C" license must already have either the "H" or "P" endorsement. "P" - Passenger* Authorizes a driver, 18 years of age or older, to operate a bus or any motor vehicle designed for the transportation of 16 or more passengers, including the driver. This endorsement cannot be added to a non-commercial license and is not required when transporting 16 or more passengers in a recreational vehicle. "S" - School Bus* Authorizes a driver, 18 years of age or older, to operate a bus for the transportation of preschool, elementary or secondary school students to and from school or school activities. This endorsement must be accompanied by the "P" endorsement. "T" - Trailers Authorizes a driver to operate a commercial or non-commercial Class "A" vehicle when pulling more than one trailer. This endorsement cannot be added to a commercial or non-commercial Class "B" or "C" license. "X" - Hazmat/Tanker Combo Represents the combination of the "H" and "N" endorsements. If you are between the ages of 18 to 20 years you will be restricted to "Intrastate Driving Only."
