Do I need an International Driving Permit?

If you are visiting Wyoming from another country, and you hold a valid driver license from that country, you will need to have an "International Driving Permit" to accompany that driver license.

International Driving Permits are issued to you by the country in which you are licensed. It is a literal translation of the class and restrictions associated with your valid driver's license. Should you be pulled over by a law enforcement officer, you must present both your International Driving Permit and your valid out-of-country driver's license. In this manner, the officer can better determine whether or not the vehicle you are driving is permitted by the class of driver's license you hold.

If you have a U.S. state-issued driver's license, you can obtain an International Driving Permit from your local AAA office.

"International Driver's Licenses" issued to you through an internet site are NOT "International Driving Permits," nor are they actual licenses that permit you to drive on designated roadways. They are not acceptable identification when applying for a Wyoming driver's license or identification card. If you use this type of "license" to operate a motor vehicle on Wyoming roadways, you may be cited for driving without a valid driver's license because it is not issued by a nationally recognized issuing authority.
