Snowy Range Pass opens

May 22, 2014

WYO 130 over Snowy Range Pass opened for the summer season at dawn Saturday.

Travelers are advised that current high country conditions are wet with cold nights. Motorcyclists and bikers should watch for patches of frozen run-off before the morning sun dries road surface. All travelers and hikers should be prepared for possible closures due to winter-like weather on the pass even after it opens.

Next week, manpower and equipment will move west to WYO 70, which remains impassable with snow to be cleared, equipment serviced and the path widened. There is no set opening date for WYO 70 at this time.

For current conditions, please phone 511 or visit www.wyoroad.info.

The high elevation sections of WYO 130 and WYO 70 close annually in late autumn when relatively low traffic and deep snow accumulations render plowing operations impractical.
