WYDOT will have essential services during the holidays

December 20, 2018

The Wyoming Department of Transportation may have limited services during the upcoming holidays, but essential services will still be in place.

WYDOT, like other state agencies, will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Day. However, the Wyoming Highway Patrol, WHP dispatch and WYDOT maintenance crews will still be working to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

“We’re thankful that WYDOT employees will have time off to spend with their loved ones this holiday season,” said WYDOT Director Bill Panos. “But we want to assure our entire Wyoming family that we will still have essential personnel available in cases of emergencies and to keep the state’s infrastructure running as safely as possible.”

Starting next week, WYDOT will be closed Monday, Dec. 24, and Tuesday, Dec. 25. The department will be open for regular business and hours on Wednesday, Dec. 26; Thursday, Dec. 27; Friday, Dec. 28 and Monday, Dec. 31.

The department will then close for New Year’s Day on Tuesday, Jan. 1.

Motorists can still get the latest road and travel information by visiting WYDOT’s 511 website at http://wyoroad.info. They can also download the department’s 511 app to get the latest conditions. The app also has a hands free/eyes free mode for safe traveling.

Besides checking the latest road and travel information, motorists can be safe by always buckling up, driving sober and avoiding distractions.

“This holiday season, and throughout the year, we at WYDOT want everyone to arrive at their destinations safely,” Panos said. “To reduce the chance of crashes and fatalities, we urge residents to always practice safe driving habits and always buckle up. One fatality is one too many so we ask residents to avoid distractions and drive sober.”
