STAY VIGILANT FOR SCAMS

Scammers are tricky and often pose as goverment agencies -- including WYDOT -- to try to gain your trust in order to trick you into giving away personal information or money.

Scam texts often create a sense of urgency by claiming a series of unpaid tickets or toll bills are about to lead to suspension of driving privileges. Scammers can even spoof official websites to further try to gain your trust.

WYDOT HAS SEEN AN INCREASE IN SCAMMERS POSING AS THE AGENCY

Here are some tips to watch for:

  • Tolling authorities typically mail toll bills. Wyoming has no toll roads, and WYDOT does not have a method to accept payment for toll bills in other states.
  • WYDOT does not offer a way to pay citations online - all citations from law enforcement are hendled through the court system.
  • WYDOT will never text or call you from a foreign number.
  • Any information or messaging about driver licenses will not be from "The DMV" - WYDOT calls itself Driver Services

If you get a text that doesn't pass "the smell test" please call WYDOT and double check if it's a scam. Never click/tap a link sent to you via text from an unknown number.
