Tongue River Elementary School - September 2025

On September 17, 2025 WYDOT Local Programs visited with the students of Tongue River (TR) Elementary School in Ranchester, WY. Through the help of TR Elementary P.E. and Health teacher, Heidi Carreiro, and WYDOT District 4 Public Involvement Specialist, Laua Dalles, our office was able to speak to every student in attendance at TR Elementary School. The students were spoken to about the importance of bike/pedestrian safety, proper use of hand signals when operating a bicycle, proper use of reflective material, and how to properly fit a bike helmet. Once these discussions were had each student was fitted for and given a bike helmet, bike reflector, bike safety pamphlet, and safety-incetive stickers to decorate their helmets with. These helmets were puchased through the WYDOT Transportation Alternatives Incentive Program (TAIP), which aims to promote bicycle safety to school-age children in the State of Wyoming.

TAIP aims to implement a comprehensive statewide initiative that enhances bicycle safety, traffic education, and school safety. This program aligns with federal and state transportation goals by promoting sustainable and safer transportation alternatives. This office participates in this initiative by attending school-sponsored or town/city-sponsored events where we have the pleasure to hand out helmets, refelctors, and other safety-incentive items to the students and youth of our Wyoming communities.
