Crack Sealing work will cause delays on US 191

January 15, 2019

The Wyoming Department of Transportation and contract crews from Z & Z Seal Coating Inc. will be conducting crack sealing work on US 191 between Pinedale and Daniel Junction starting Wednesday, Jan. 16. Work will tentatively follow on Cora Road the following week. Work is contingent upon weather as roads must be clear of snow and safe for work.

The work will last about a week. Residents and travelers are advised to expect delays up to 20 minutes, so those commuting on this highway are advised to plan accordingly. Traffic will be carried through the work areas at reduced speeds on a single lane using flaggers. Motorists are advised to watch for flaggers and be prepared to stop.

In addition, WYDOT would like to caution drivers turning onto US 191 from approaches within the work zone to be cautious of the single-lane traffic.

“We ask that drivers turning onto US 191 be cautious and aware of the direction of traffic. We are running a single lane of vehicles through the project area, so we ask that those approaching and turning onto the highway turn onto the road in the same direction of moving traffic,” Lockman said.

Following the work on US 191 and Cora Road, crews will be moving to US 189 between La Barge and Big Piney.

Crack sealing is used as a defense against pavement deterioration. If done effectively, crack sealing keeps water from entering and weakening the base or sub-base of the roadway.

Z & Z Seal Coating Inc. was awarded the contract for $1,592,766 in October of 2018. The completion date for this district-wide project is April 30, 2019.

WYDOT would like to remind drivers to slow down in work zones, be alert and cautious of roadside workers. For more information on road construction, closures and weather conditions, visit WYDOT's 511 website.
