WYDOT begins work on two projects in downtown Jackson

JACKSON, Wyo.  The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) and contract crews will begin work this fall on two infrastructure projects prior to the winter season. The targeted improvements include drainpipe installation, a complete traffic signal replacement, concrete slab repairs, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) pedestrian sidewalk upgrades. Construction is scheduled to begin Oct. 1 and progress through late November, with final phases resuming in the spring.

“We tried to time this work to avoid the busy summer season and poor weather in winter,” WYDOT resident engineer Bob Hammond said.

Initial work will focus on the installation of new drain inlets, sidewalk, and ramp replacements on Broadway Avenue at Cache Street, Glenwood Street, and Millward Street along with a new traffic signal at the intersection of Millward Street and Broadway Avenue.

As construction intensifies through October and November, motorists and pedestrians should prepare for the following traffic impacts:

• Lane Reductions: Thru-traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction within the work zone.
• Turn Restrictions: Drivers will be prohibited from turning off Broadway Avenue onto North Millward Street.
• Commercial Detour: Heavy vehicles and commercial traffic will be detoured around the project area via North Jackson Street.
• Pedestrian Access: Standard sidewalk access will be restricted; however, crews will maintain alternative pedestrian pathways safely routed through the construction area.
• Parking Restrictions: Parking will be restricted on Broadway Avenue and Cache Street within the construction area.

All active construction, detours, and intersection closures are scheduled to remain in place until Nov. 21, when crews will suspend operations for the winter season. Contract crews will return to the site in the spring to complete the remaining project work.
