Scheduling a CDL Test

Knowledge tests do not need to be scheduled ahead of time; however, you may have to wait for an available testing station if the driver exam office is exceptionally busy.

All first time applicants for Hazmat must complete the ELDT theory training for Hazardous Materials prior to taking the knowledge test.

After February 7, 2022, ELDT Training must be completed prior to performing the CDL Skills tests for anyone who has not received a grandfather exemption.  A CLP holder may schedule the skills test prior to completion of the ELDT Training, but the skills test will be cancelled and a new fee may be required if ELDT completion can not be verified prior to the scheduled skills test time.

Driving Skills tests must be scheduled and paid for in advance at your local driver exam office or by calling our CDL Help Desk at 777-4800 Option 4.  The fee for a skills test is $85.

If you fail to appear for your appointment and you did not call to cancel (you must contact the exam station to cancel within 24 hours of your appointment time) or if you fail your skills test, the $85 fee is forfeited.  Should the applicant fail the skills test, he or she must reschedule for another test by contacting the exam station and paying another $85 fee.
