I-80 bridge over Lincolnway to be rehabbed this year

April 27, 2017

A major construction project that begins next week will improve a section of Interstate 80 near Cheyenne.

Crews will be rehabilitating the I-80 bridges over Lincolnway just west of Cheyenne, which includes repairing concrete slabs to create a smooth driving surface.

Drivers should be mindful of the work zone and changing traffic patterns.

Work on the westbound lanes is scheduled to begin May 1, weather permitting. The westbound lanes will be completed by mid-August.

The eastbound lanes will see construction beginning around mid-June, and those lanes will be completed by late September.

Traffic in each direction will be reduced to one lane when work begins. Partway through the project, work will switch to the opposite lane (ex. the driving lane to the passing lane), meaning motorists will see a corresponding change in traffic patterns.

In addition, detours will be in place for drivers seeking to go from both directions of Interstate 25 to I-80 westbound. Those drivers will be diverted on to Lincolnway and then to I-80.

Drivers need to use caution when traveling through the work zone and obey traffic control devices. Due to the project’s proximity to the I-25 interchange and because work will change lanes midway through construction, drivers need to remain especially alert.

S & S Builders is the prime contractor for the work.

This project is one of several on I-80 in Laramie County and across Wyoming this year.
