I-80 expected to be closed overnight between Laramie and Cheyenne

May 18, 2017

LARAMIE, Wyo. – Interstate 80 between Laramie and Cheyenne is expected to remain closed overnight tonight as a result of the ongoing winter storm.

Poor visibility in the higher elevations, combined with ongoing precipitation and snow- and ice-covered roads, have contributed to the closure.

WYO 210 between the I-80 Summit and Cheyenne is also expected to remain closed overnight.

I-80 also remains closed eastbound between Rawlins and Laramie, and the interstate is closed in both directions between Rawlins and Rock Springs. As of 5 p.m., US 287 south of Laramie remains open to traffic.

Other roads across Laramie, Albany and Carbon counties are experiencing winter conditions.

The closures are the result of an ongoing, potentially record-breaking, spring snowstorm that is affecting southeast Wyoming and producing large amounts of heavy, wet snow.

WYDOT District 1 crews are continuing to plow roads throughout the district in accordance with WYDOT’s Snow Plow Priority Plan, and resources are being shifted throughout District 1 to areas of need.

Travelers should be aware of road closures and road conditions, which can be checked by visiting WYDOT's 511 Travel Information website or calling 5-1-1.

It is important to observe all weather-related closures. A number of vehicles, ranging from passenger cars to large trucks, have become stuck in snow since the storm began.

If motorists need to travel, they should slow down and drive cautiously. They also shouldn't crowd snowplows and should allow space for crews to work.
