Wagonhound rest area on I-80 to close temporarily

August 22, 2016

The Wagonhound rest area on I-80 west of Laramie will close for striping work at 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 22 and reopen at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

The Wyoming Department of Transportation needs to close the rest area for the striping work to allow the paint to dry. The rest area is about 50 miles west of Laramie.

Besides Wagonhound, the Fort Steele rest area remains closed for ongoing maintenance on the water system, which was due for an overhaul. The work is ongoing and is expected to continue over the next few weeks.

Although those two rest areas are closed, travelers needing a break can still stop at the five other rest areas along I-80 that are open.

The two rest areas nearest to the closed rest areas are the Summit to the east and Bitter Creek to the west.
